Cotton candy, raffle prizes and a bouncy box added to the festive air of The Neighborhood Family Center’s 7th Annual “Green” Block Party. Kids and adults were at the center to partake in food, games and the limbo. Kids fingerprinting and ID pictures done by the Pinellas County, marriage and family counseling, as well as other community health issues including information about HIV/AIDS testing and prevention were there to offer support to the community. Sparky the fire dog and a live DJ were also on the menu.
In the heart of the community The Family Center holds this free festival each year as an opportunity to show our commitment to the community we serve. We feel a community block party brings a neighborhood together. We calculated over 600 men, women and children showed up for the event and over 700 lbs of food was served. Sponsored by a slew of businesses both big and small, this event hopes to inspire the neighborhood and gives the community a chance to learn more about the vast amount of resources available to them.
We believe “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, a quote that describes the efforts we put forth at the center. This free annual event includes booths from local businesses, restaurants, groups and institutions. The services we provide to families and individuals in a lot a ways keeps the community in a positive functioning mood; which prevent adversary outcomes.
Our center strives to promote "strong partnerships and healthy relationships" and features programs that are available to individuals and families within our service area, in need of emergency support and counseling. Literacy programs focused on school readiness and corrective reading, computer classes, educational services and parenting programs are also available to anyone in need.
We continue to serve over 7,000 people annually in support services, educational and recreational avenues through partnerships, sponsors and fundraisers.
