ABOUT US

Who Are We?

The Safety Harbor Family Center has been helping families since 1994.

We envision safe, healthy, strong and self-sufficient, families and communities.

We strive to strengthen families and children through programs that promote and improve physical, mental, and moral development.

We support neighborhood improvement through direct services and collaborative arrangements with our partnerships, local businesses, and community volunteers.

OUR MISSION

The overall mission of the program is to empower the neighborhood and strengthen families, especially those with young children. The program has established a number of collaborative relationships with agencies and programs that have benefited the area, including a food bank that is housed at the Neighborhood Family Coalition and managed by local church volunteers.

The program also provides the required NFC components including: parenting skills and support groups, family literacy, a computer lab, outreach, child care for parents during center activities, community meetings, and linkage to health care and community services.

Safety Harbor Family Center is incorporated in the State of Florida as a non-profit corporation. We are a tax-exempt 501C3 non-profit organization under the Internal Revenue Service Code. Contributions made to The Safety Harbor Family Center are tax deductible and confidential.

We are committed to nurturing and strengthening children, youth, adults, their families and

communities through education, support services and collaborative partnerships.

What is the Neighborhood Family Center?

The Neighborhood Family Center is a 501(c)3 non profit organization governed by a voluntary Board of Directors, with a small staff headed by a regional Executive Director and a Program Director. We operate independently, as part of a coalition known as the Pinellas Core Management Services. The Center is a grass roots organization which provides help, aide and assistance to resolve problems for families in need of temporary support.

How and when did the Center get started?

In the mid 1990s a group of concerned citizens formed a coalition to address local problems with substance abuse. Soon realizing that it was necessary to deal with the underlying causes of the abuse, they applied for and received a grant form the Juvenile Welfare Board to fund the beginning of the community center. Based on the premise that community problems could be dealt with more effectively at the local level than by some large detached organization, the Center launched a successful format of support services which continues to the present day.

Whom does the Center serve?

Programs are available to individuals and families within our service area, in need of emergency support and counseling. Literacy programs focused on school readiness and corrective reading,

computer classes, educational services and parenting programs are also available to anyone in need.

How is the Center funded?

The Neighborhood Family Center receives financial support from the PCMS, Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County, annual financial support from the cities of Safety Harbor and Oldsmar Florida, as well as special grant support, private donations, gifts and sponsorship for special programs and events.

Where does the Center get referrals for service?

Any adult living within the service area of Safety Harbor, Oldsmar or Eastern Clearwater may come in on their own to seek assistance. With over a decade of work in the area, the Center is well known and we therefore receive referrals from the local school system, faith based groups and other community agencies familiar with our programs.

What programs does the center offer?

The center offers support programs and services which benefits families, children, youths and adults. We also offer recreational classes through a collaboration with partners.

The Center actively participates in community activities and volunteer driven projects throughout the year, such as the annual Green Block Party and the Back To School backpack project.
